Two years ago saw JJ Abrams imagined first meeting of a young Kirk and a young Spock in his rebooted Star Trek a fantastic piece of prequel movie making in my opoiun
Now we see the reboot of another thought to failing movie fancies in the form of producer Bryan Singer and and director Matthew Vaughn X-Men First Class will this film revitalize the flagging fortunes of the x-men movie fancies by doing the same with Schismatic leaders Professor Xavier and Magneto.
In this movie we find out how they first meet the cold war 1960′s I do feel this film did take its time to set up its characters but I feel that this is due to there being a lot of back story to fit into one film this does lead to a lot of jumps back and forth between the main characters but none the less very watchable.
This film does a very good job to explain the origins of both Eric (magneto) Michael Fassbender, and young fresh faced professor Xavier (professor X ) played by James McAvoy.
The start of the movie see’s us once again in Germany at the height of the 2nd world war in a concentration camp as depicted the X-Men 1st film already. Young Eric Lehnsherr is separated from his parents this is where we first discover Eric’s mutant abilities this was found to be found offensive by many people.
The film goes to try to explain how magneto came to be in possession of his helmet and how Professor X became wheel chair bound found both of theses to be rather disappointing as a long time fan of the X-Men universe how ever I did find them to work very well with the films narrative.
The narrative leading up to this although slow to start with becomes very hard and fast hitting towards the conclusion I will say I
A Nazi scientist who is interested in a young Eric and harnessing his powers for the Reich who latter evades the allied forces and reemerges after the war as Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon) how speaks with a flawless American accent.
The adult Eric crica 1960 sets out to track down his former tutor for revenge. Vaugh’s portrayal of how much rage filled Eric’s grown up self is and also at how much self loathing he had at not being able to kill this Nazi after he murdered his parents.
Bacon’s casting as Shaw I will say was a interesting choice as a Nazi I do feel that his German accent was passable but I think he’s much more at home with the English American accent.
Fassbender has a wonderful German accent how ever I did get a slight twang of some other language coming through they very much have what I can only term as a certain German bite to the words
James Mcavoy delivers a wonderful bright faced and energetic bounce to Xavier he is portrayed as the quintessentially nerdy oxford university student who lives with raven a mutant orphan who he has lived with since childhood like a sister.
Xavier and Lehnsar are thrown together when they are both recruited by CIA agents played by Rose Byrne and Demetri Goritsas, to find Shaw, who has caused the Cuban missile crisis to bring about his mutants only world order..
After the initial part of the movie this movie picks up and brings a wonderful new feel to the fancies in my opiun while still keeping a nod to the old such as when Xavier and eric go off on a world trip to find mutants round the world with help of cerebro and bump into wolverine Hopefully this will see the reboot of the flagging X-men fancies.
